People all around the world are concerned right now as to how, why and when could this worldwide pandemic called Global Warming have taken place so quickly, and can we really turn this situation around. Given the task on hand one can only envisage going back to the horse and cart would be a start, and even if we have the technology to take alternative clean energy to the consumer will the design be free of hindrance from corporate capital buy-outs and government interference? And does the consumer have the moral willpower to exact change?

Our re-forestation programme is ideally situated on the Garden Route in the Western Cape, which is one of the most biodiverse areas in the world. This is an evergreen afro-montane fynbos and forest region and is perfectly suited climatically to have authentication in carbon sequestration. This area is regarded as the Southern hemisphere lung of the planet!

This programme offers everyone the chance to purchase a Green Ticket for their carbon footprint. This ticket purchase ensures funding for a set amount of trees to be planted by Life Skills in SA to off-set your emissions from air-travel, car journeys, household running costs to company offices etc.
Our carbon calculator conforms to the standards set out by the Green House Gas (GHG) protocol and will help you to work out the amount of harmful emissions deployed into the atmosphere. Find out the amount of trees you need to plant bearing in mind the variable influences of age and type of tree, geographical location, climate, altitude, soil composition and biodiversity. These numbers extend into hundreds of thousands for large corporations.  We record and monitor all trees planted to ensure healthy growth and investigate possible future sites for planting. The continued preservation of existing forests is our seed bank and the savior for our future forests.

Remember certain indigenous forests are quite impervious to fire which enhances our success rate of rehabilitation and re-forestation plans. Support for the local fire-fighting organisations is a small preventative measure in hindsight!

The Western Cape contains almost 20% of the biodiversity of flora found on earth.  Scientists all agree that biodiversity enhances nitrogen and carbon dioxide fixation more so than mono culture.  Therefore, we try to create a duplicate of the natural environment and do not just plant trees but recreate eco-systems.  This means we pursue the development of what we call “patch community planting”.  We work a pioneer plant community around a climax and sub climax tree association including micro organisms and naturally occurring bacteria in a symbiotic relationship.

This Green Ticket initiative has potential to fund an Alternate Clean Energy Programme to assist scientists working for clean energy and offering bursaries to University applicants interested in studying sciences that can aid to the introduction of clean alternate energy.
